Dr. Philip Schoenfeld

MD and Chief of Gastroenterology Dr. Philip Schoenfeld

Serving as chief emeritus of the Gastroenterology Section at John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan, Dr. Philip Schoenfeld holds a doctor of medicine (MD) from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He also holds a bachelor of arts in biology and a master of science in education, with a specialization in health professions education. After earning his MD, Dr. Philip Schoenfeld trained in various gastroenterology divisions during his time with the United States Navy. His professional memberships, meanwhile, include the American Gastroenterological Association and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Dr. Schoenfeld has performed over 150 lectures at medical meetings and conferences, in addition to making grand rounds at various academic medical centers. During his career, he has published upwards of 250 research papers, academic chapters, and abstracts. His work has appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine and the British Medical Journal, among other peer-reviewed venues. A few of his career accolades include the Joseph R. Stokes Research Award and Outstanding Clinical Research Mentor honors from the University of Michigan School of Medicine Division of Gastroenterology.
